Workshop on 'Planning and organising the municipal solid waste management system'

A one-week working meeting in Jena

As part of the project partnership Kommunalservice Jena – Deir Alla, a week-long workshop will be held from Sunday the 12th to Sunday the 19th of November on 'Planning and organising the municipal solid waste management system'. The workshop will be organised and conducted by the municipal company Kommunalservice Jena.

The key issues which the workshop will address are planning and implementing separate collection, optimising route planning for solid waste management, conducting campaigns on separate collection, and defining further steps for cooperation between the project partners. This will involve discussing and agreeing on next steps for planning, for instance regarding measures to prepare for waste analysis at the Deir Alla landfill. A further focus will be cooperation between the partners in 2018. In this connection a meeting will be held between the participants from Deir Alla, and the Mayor of Jena, Dr. Albrecht Schröter, as well as other representatives of the municipality of Jena.

What will await the participants at the workshop in Jena? The Kommunalservice Jena company will provided a tour of their premises and the recycling yard. Here there will also be an opportunity to hold talks with the German partners in the company's engineering department, and discuss technical problems. The visitors from Deir Alla will also visit the Großlöbichau landfill and inspect the reloading station and visitor registration facilities there. Participants will also have an opportunity to see Jena's organic waste collection system in action and see how waste sorting analysis is prepared. Here they will be able to find out more about route planning for the collection of organic waste, and the organisation of organic waste collection. The group will also discuss the topic of waste management education together with involved children.
